At last--a new laser has shown to be safe and effective at
removing unwanted hair! The new LightSheer Diode laser (now available in our
office) has been released after more than two years of research. Studies show
lasting hair removal. The FDA has approved the Diode laser as "permanent." The Diode laser is safe and gentle. The light emitted by the LightSheer Diode Laser is absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair's growth. A chill tip cools the treated skin while the laser energy is delivered to the hair follicles below. The length of a laser session may be a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Because the laser tends to treat hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, 3-5 treatments may be required to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase. For optimal results, an average of three treatments need to be performed to each area. The laser treatment itself can cause a slight tingling sensation. Most patients report little discomfort with this fast and easy treatment.. But because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, patients may want to use a topical anesthesia available through our office.
Areas which can be effectively treated with this laser include the upper lip, cheek, chin and neck, underarms, bikini area, breast, abdomen, back, and chest. It is also possible to treat legs but may require more than 3-5 treatments due to a lower number of hairs in the active growth phase. 100% reduction and remaining hairs are lighter and thinner.
